Summertime Rituals with Tea

No matter where you are in the world, you are at home when tea is served.

Earlene Grey, poet

You caught me—I LOVE tea! Hot or cold, I both begin and end my day with tea.

My summertime favorite was iced tea, but I put it aside for many years because of the sugar. Sure, I could make it myself, but that is a lot of work. And my readers know I am a busy woman, as are my readers.

Well, I broke down recently and decided it was time to see if I could whip up a fast brew of iced tea. And, admittedly, it was not as intensive as I remember.

So I’m going to share the easy, no fuss, no sugar added recipe with you. And I’d love to hear your favorite teas when making this cool, summertime favorite.

Iced Tea Recipe

For one cup:
One teabag of your favorite tea
1 Cup boiling water
1 tsp Monk Fruit Sweetener or Erythritol (optional)
Ice cubes
Heat-proof mug

For full pitcher:
4-6 teabags
8 Cups boiling water
½ Cup Monk Fruit Sweetener or Erythritol (optional)
Ice cubes
Heat-proof pitcher (or large measuring bowl)

Instructions:
Pour boiling water over tea bag. (For the pitcher: I poured boiling water into a large measuring bowl with the tea bags and let it cool before pouring it into the pitcher).

Steep tea bags 3-5 minutes (or longer) depending on how strong you like your tea.

Remove tea bags, add sweetener, and stir with a fork or use a whisk until it is dissolved.

Cool for about 15 minutes, then add ice cubes. For pitcher, store in the refrigerator and add ice cubes to your glass when ready to drink.

Tips:
1. Add fresh mint or a slice of fresh fruit such as a peach, or lemon if desired.

2. Mint and green teas make excellent iced teas. I used Green Tea with Lemon for mine. Remember: green tea still has a bit of caffeine, so treat it as if you were drinking black tea. Herbal teas such as hibiscus or passion are an option if you like to drink a lot of iced tea! You can also mix and match teas.

3. Pour some of the iced tea into ice cube trays to use instead of plain ice cubes.
