The lavender bush is quiet
though it grows full and vibrant
bursting with succulent blossoms
it no longer hums
swarmed by honeybees
as in years past
collecting nectar
dancing with one floral partner
to the next.
The bees are gone
their song silent
a bumblebee or two
fulfilling their role
but they are lonely,
their joy vanished.
